"Don't get in the way of a Corsairan" is a common admonisment to green mercenary recruits. A centuries long eugenics program has produced a nation of superb warriors. A Corsairan will do anything to achieve his goal, if a mountain needed to be moved he would pick up the first rock and start. They have beaten every invader of their homeland, and more than ready to do so again. Its very easy to recognise a Corsairan, they are big and heavily armed. Corsaira's major export is its mercenaries, and there many groups around the continent commanding high wages for their services.

Statistics


Towns

The Capital is the city of Tol Saira. It is also the major port for the country. There are no other towns of any size. Most Corsairans live in small villages. The only other places of high population density are the military forts of which there are ten.

Population

The population is about 1 million. This figure remains fairly static despite the huge casualties. Mainly because of the high birthrate

Approximately 100,000 sq miles of high quality arable land.


Wealth

Corsaira is not a wealthy country, all her resources are poured into the war effort.


What Others Think

It would be difficult to describe how others view the country of Corsaira; they are so extreme that they engender a wide range of feelings. In the capital of The Empire they may be viewed as a useful tool against the rising problem of the Cabal. Most warriors would view them with respect, because they are the paramount conventional warriors on the continent. 


The Military

Corsaira is military, the whole social structure is arranged with warfare in mind. They excel at it and enjoy it. The reason the Cabal is having so much trouble is due to the fact that the Corsairans are in their perfect scenario. They are fighting for their homeland, and there is s no better cause. 


Population

As mentioned previously the whole society is orientated towards war. Even the women are skilled warriors. However the Corsairans have one racial characteristic that other the nations find of interest. Corsairans do not have a normal family group. A Corsairan family group (an Ailar) may consist of several men and women. Any children from any of the women are cared for by the whole family group. In Corsaira, there are no orphans. If the adults of one family are killed then another Ailar will care for any children
Few Corsairans make it to old age, but those that do are accorded a great amount of respect, their wisdom and tactical knowledge are highly sought after. When a Corsairan believes that he, or she, is begining to fade; he will pick a battle (there is never a shortage) in which to fight and will position himself at the front. This is called The Inairge, and a lengthy ceremony is required before hand.


Government

The government is indistinguishable from the military command structure. 


Famous People

The Xenan, Skelos the Great.
Fenral Skelos is the epitome of all a Corsairan should be. He never ran or retreated from a fight regardless of the odds. In fact he actually sought out the thickest fighting and charged headlong into it. His career reached its pinacle when he led the defense of the pass now named after him against the Vanardian army of Venarl. The Vanardian army lost over 15,000 men to a defending force of only a 1,000. Skelos wasn't actually in charge of the defense, he was just always at the front.


After that action he was proclaimed Xenan, and his leadership took Corsaira to the forefront of the countries of Holat. When his time finally came Skelos performed the Inairge ten times before he finally joined the house of Saira

People


Organisations The military, they even trade as an society as a whole. When you sell something to a Corsairan, it belongs to the country. 


Places


The Military


The Army The basic unit of the army is the family Ailar. When called up an Ailar will send what it thinks is a reasonable proportion of its number to fight. These Ailar are combined into Kodon which may be any number of Ailar, and is representative of the village from which the Ailar come. Kodon are then used as and when required. The whole structure is commanded by the Xenan. The Xenan is a benevolent dictator, and is considered to be the servant of his people.


The Navy The Navy is ordered along similar lines, and uses ships produced by the Morindians.


Magical Forces The Corsairans have no magical forces, however they do seem to have a better than normal resistance to magic.


Magic There are no Corsairan mages. Some warriors may use magic, but only in the same way a normal fighter would. 


The Law


The Judiciary There is no judiciary 


The Militia There is no militia crime is almost non existant, and is punished withinh the army. 


The Thieves There is no thieves guild. One was attempted once by outside interests, all died badly. 


The Assassins There is no guild, but some Corsairans have similar skills 


Other Agencies None 


The Government


The Nature of the Government Military dictatorship, advised by a council. The dictator can be removed. 


Prominent Players The current dictator Elsal Mercrai  


Foreign Policy Survive. Corsairans don't like Kureshtins, because of the decadence they represent, but the Empire is aiding them at the moment. They have very good relations with the dwarven Karaks. 


Trade


Imports They import most things 


Exports Very high quality weapons, all are individualy numbered and they are choosy to whom they sell. Most are mithril based. 


Natural Resources They have huge natural reserves, of iron ore, and preciuos metals in their mountains, which they encourage the dwarves to mine. The most sought after being the mithril. 


Currency They use the Kureshtin Eagle. 


Religion


There is only one god, Saira
